VILLAGE OF EVENDALE
SIGN VARIANCE COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR THE
AUGUST 29, 2006 MEETING
The Sign Variance Committee met on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 5:30 P.M., in the Council Library of the Village of Evendale Municipal Building. Members present were Chairman Ted Mueller, Pat Finan, Wayne Mosley and Councilman Stiney Vonderhaar. Member Fred Caston was absent. Also present was Cassie Bell, representing MC Mobility and Pam Morin, Building Department.
Stiney Vonderhaar made a motion to correct the first paragraph of the agenda to read MC Mobility instead of Pizza Hut. It was seconded by Wayne Mosley. The motion passed with the vote of 3 – 0, with Pat Finan absent for this vote.
The committee heard the following request:
MC Mobility, 10691 Reading Road
MC Mobility submitted plans for an 8’ by 6’ ground sign with a height of 9’ and setback from Reading Road 10’ 6”. They are requesting a one foot variance in height and 9’ 6” variance in the required setback.
Cassie Bell explained that they currently only have a wall sign, in which many of their customers have difficulty seeing. MC Mobility feels that the additional one foot in height is necessary to be seen over the existing Exon Avenue entrance sign and around the trees located on their lot. If they placed the sign at the required 20’ setback, the sign would be located in their parking lot, limiting the sign’s visibility.
Comments from the members included:
· The trees could impede the sign visibility with the additional one foot in height;
· The serpentine/landscaping walls on Reading Road would not impact the sign visibility;
· Placing the sign in the parking lot would not only decrease visibility, but also increase the risk of the sign being damaged by vehicles;
· Locating the sign further back in the grassy area, may cause the sign to be lost in the parked vans;
· Concern that the requested setback of only 10’ 6”, may impede the vehicle’s line of sight pulling out of Exon Avenue.
A motion to recommend to Council to deny the height variance and to approve the setback variance was made by Stiney Vonderhaar and seconded by Ted Mueller. The motion passed with the vote of 4 – 0.
Wayne Mosley made a motion to accept the minutes of the March 30, 2006 meeting as read. Pat Finan seconded that motion. The motion passed with a vote of 4 – 0.
The meeting was adjourned by Chairman Mueller at 6:00 P.M.
